Urinary test WBCs: You probably have some trace leukocytes there but what you observe is the test strip "keeps reacting" after the 2 min mark, so it looks "more positive" than it is. Best to follow the test instructions exactly. White blood cells (WBCs) could indicate a urinary tract infection so you should probably see a doctor about it.

my daughter just took an at home uti strip test and it came back positive for leukocytes but negative for nitrates. does this mean she has an infectio?

No: It just means it detected the breakdown products of leucocytes in the sample.You don't mention the age, which is relevant, but most home testing is done wrong.If a woman/girl does a squat pee to collect a sample it is both pee and a vaginal washout.That sample is relatively worthless. Leukocytes can also appear in the urine in any febrile child without infection.

Unfortunately no: The urine dipstick can show only evidence of blood--white or red blood cells, ketone, sugar, protein, urobilinogen, how concentrated urine is, and may hint at positive for bacteria, but cannot show what specific type of bacteria. Even the clinical urinalysis cannot do that--it is often requiring culture and sensitivity testing to id the specific bug. Consult doc. Good luck.

Yes and no: Otc strips show products that are present with red cells, white cells and bacteria.  They don't actually show infection or blood.  To do this they need to do a cell count and culture and that has to be sent out.   The otc strips are similar and when they are positive they are suggestive of uti.  Be careful, blood in urine alone can be stone or bladder cancer.  Get it checked.

Possible: Not all UTIs give positive nitrite.Leukocytes could be present if urine not very cleanly collected in female(by wiping very well with antiseptic pad &amp;labia separated).Only sure proof of infection is culture.If you did a dipstick test at home,I presume you are having symptoms. Best to see doctor &amp; probably you will be given antibiotic probably after giving urine specimen.

Timing is everything: Uti dipstick tests are helpful but have serious limitations. Reading the stick at the correct time helps to improve the accuracy of the test, as you have noted.  The chemicals causing the color change degrade in time, confusing things. White cells in women can come from the vagina, giving a falsely positive test. Hydrate, consider antibiotics and see your doctor if you develop back pain or fever.

See below.: A urine dip stick can detect a urinary tract infection but it cannot differentiate between a bladder or a kidney infection.  Bladder infection or cystitis is characterized by burning on urination, urinary urgency and frequency.  Kidney infection or pyelonephritis has the same symptoms plus flank pain and often fever and chills.

You MIGHT: have a uti.  See a doctor, because you need further testing and perhaps a course of antibiotics.
