what are the best non-surgical methods for reducing or breaking down excess scar tissue resulting from a recent or previous surgery? occ therapist currently using iastm metal tool to work on flexor tendon surgery scar, but not seeing any results yet?

: Scar tissue size and growth is difficult to treat short of cosmetic surgical excision, and even such surgery is not guaranteed to prevent recurrence, since predisposition to form dense scars is a genetic trait.

i've done mri , ct scan and xray and i got i screw in my talus after the surgery and my question is, can i walk as usual without support tool?

Talus surgery: If the screw was inserted to correct a fracture, it is possible that there may have been joint damage in the sub-talar joint or the ankle joint. If you are not in pain, there is no need to worry as long as the fracture has healed. If you are in pain, i would have a follow up MRI to examine the joint surfaces.

had zone 2 flexor repair on rt pinky nov. 10. still quite stiff due to scar tissue buildup. aside from revision surgery, which i understand to be a last-resort treatment, what are some other treatment methods or tools used to break up scar tissue?

: I am not a hand expert however I would suggest that you use warm towel to warm the area then exercise regularly as tolerated to improve mobility. The scar tissue is actually based on body response and that could be unpredictable. You could also use massage with liniment to soften the area after the exercises.

Most any: Most soaps can be used around surgical wounds without causing problems.

Skin glue: If you are referring to the glue used on the incision to help seal skin after surgery, the most common brand names are Indermal and Dermabond.

had septoplasty  surgery 10 days ago  can i use a netti  pot?

Accepted Answer

Ask first: You had surgery inside you nose 10 days ago and you want to put something in there.  It would be advisable to ask your surgeon rather than an internet message board.  A neti pot can mean different things to different people.  A true neti pot you sniff the saline through your nostril and it may be ok.  Some people use a squeeze bottle to forcefully push the saline through and that might not be ok.

Biocompatible : Titanium is durable, strong and biocompatible.     Also, for dental implants, the jaw bone can grow into the titanium matrix that surrounds the implants.

Pain medication: Over the counter medications like Advil and Tylenol (acetaminophen) can help for minor pain. If you required more pain relief then narcotic pain medications will be prescribed by your doctor.
