NO: No dipsticks just test protein, it is a rough estimate.

ONLY PROTEIN : Standard urine dipstick only measures protein by colorimetric method. If urine is postive for protein, exclude false positive, eg fever, uti, exercise postural. If positive, quantify it by measuring both protein and creatinine in the urine. . 1+ corresponds to about 200-500 mg/24 hours, a 2+ to 0.5-1.5 gm/24 hours, a 3+ to 2-5 gm/24 hours, and a 4+ represents 7 gm/24 hours or greater.

Who's worried?: A protein reading of "trace" on a urinalysis is never worth worrying about. I trust you are not a diabetic or kidney patient. If you had a spot urine with a "high" (and that's more than "trace"),  but your 24 hour urine protein was okay, you probably have orthostatic or transient proteinuria. If your physician isn't worrying over this, you shouldn't either.

Not a concern: Trace / mild protinuria, up to 300 mg/day or 300 mg/Liter, is basically never a concern, except as a marker for progession to renal disease in a known diabetic. You can get it from exercising or the stress of mild illness, and many people get it just from standing up. If your physician isn't concerned, don't be either.

: Creatinine may be falsely elevated in individuals with high muscular mass and/or high protein intake as shown in many studies. Your weightlifting history suggests that the borderline high creatinine may be proportional to your muscular mass rather than expressing early kidney damage.

A good thing: The test among other things is to determine if there is kidney disease which may cause it to leak proteins    if the result was too low to calculate, then it probably is clean of protein and that aspect of kidney function is normal.

[protein]/[creat]: The concentration of protein divided by the concentration of creatinine. Make the units the same so that they will cancel out easily. This test estimates the amount of protein excreted daily assuming 1000mg creatinine excretion (in a normal person) daily.
