Urinary tract: pos nitrites and leukocyte generally indicate infection in the urine. You need to get a urine culture and see a physician to prescribe you antibiotics.

: You don't mention the urinalysis result for white blood cells (or leukocyte esterase). If that result is high, a UTI is quite likely. If not, it's uncertain. UTIs without symptoms are quite common in older women-- regardless of your other urinalysis results, keep working with your doctor on this. If in doubt, she probably will request a urine culture to look for UTI bacteria. Good luck.

dr. ordered a urinalysis for possible uti.  test came back negative, but all the lab work (positive nitrite, mucus, in addition to having all of the symptoms.)
is this a bladder infection? i had a level of urobilinogen 4.0, should i be concerned?

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, urobilinogen level is not a cause of concern. Did your doctor order a urine culture?

doc thinks i have lupus due to many symptoms and ana positive. urinalysis was positive for protein and leukocytes at 1+ and negative for nitrites. i have many lupus symptoms but also bladder pain for months. is this result likely lupus or uti related?

Need antibiotics: No reason for alarm but you need antibiotics to treat your urinary tract infection.

Bacterial Vaginosis: Women who have bacterial vaginosis can have a vaginal discharge that smells fishy and causes you to have an alkaline ph. Any infectious process involving your urinary tract can have some degree of proteinuria. I would suggest you seek treatment from your physician for suspected cystitis/uti and see if your symptoms don't resolve.

took cipro for uti - no improvement in symptoms. got a urinalysis and nitrites present - now on bactrim. culture came back neg but i still have sympto?

Culture &amp; sensitivit: UTI very common but if u use frequently antibiotics as Cipro antibiotic resistance can develop and culture + sensitivity important to pick right choice to treat particular bacteria. Also drink plenty of water, cranberry juice, maintain good hygiene and proper nutrition . Ok to use Pyridium x 2-3 days to relieve symptoms. If no better see MD!
