Sometimes.: Umbilical hernias are small holes in the abdominal wall at the belly button through which the inner layer of the abdominal wall, the peritoneum, protrudes through to create a sac.  This sac has many pain fibers and is often sensitive to the touch, especially if it is difficult to reduce.  Your baby, regardless of their age, will let you know if it hurts, typically by grimacing and crying.

If you are having: no symptoms now, it is probably better to wait until you are finished with all your babies, because it could recur with another pregnancy.  If you are not planning it right away, you should not wait too long before you have repair.

It depends.: Hernias in infants are not uncommon, and often close on their own.  Your pediatrician should evaluate it as the baby grows to see if it is still present.  If it persists, the hernia will need to be repaired eventually.  However, if the hernia becomes hard, red, or very tender to the touch, it needs to be evaluated immediately in the emergency room to make sure it is not incarcerated.

Time: Most belly button hernias should be given two years to spontaneously close.  After that a surgical closure should be considered.

Possibly: Umbilical hernias in children do have the potential to resolve as the child grows.  Usually this doesn't happen until age 4 or 5.  They are only repaired if they become symptomatic (painful) or if they are increasing in size.  This hernia needs close observation by your pediatrician.  He will be able to refer you to a surgeon for repair when it is necessary.

Kids seldom need rpr: Loose belly muscles help a developing fetus by allowing easy blood flow thru the umbilical cord &amp; into babies body. After birth, that loosness may allow a transient umbilical hernia that will usually disappear when the belly muscles tighten, starting after baby learns to sit.By 2yo most uh have receded. I find girls more likely to need repair than boys ? I rarely refer for repair &lt;2y.

i am having umbilical hernia repair mesh  this monday. plan to have baby after waiting six months. can mesh  cause problem for the baby..

Should be fine: It will almost certainly be fine. I have seen women get pregnant after mesh ventral and umbilical hernia repair with a couple different techniques and mesh and they were fine. Both mother and baby. You will want to get the operative report and discuss with your OB however in the event you need a c-section. A smaller mesh done with the open technique may be bwtter for this . Hope this helps!
