Minimal: Cancerous tumors and normal functional cysts of the ovaries look very different and can be distinguished by ultrasound. The chance of misdiagnosis is very low but if there is any question, follow up testing would be recommended by your physician

An U/S of anything: Shows size, shape, and consistency of the tissue, or inconsistencies that are fluid filled (cysts) or solid filled or at least not filled with water density...This can be menstrual cycle dependent as well, and ovaries are on both sides, with the tubes are called adnexa. Fluid in the abdomen acan also be seen. None of this provides a diagnosis: need cells or tissue.

It should be painles: Sometimes the study is performed wtih abdominal probe in which case a full bladder is necessary to visualize pelvic organs well.  Many times, vaginal probe examination is also performed because this produces superb images as the probe can get very close to the organs being examined.  You will need to empty your bladder for this part of the exam.  Sometimes, 3d images of the ovary may be helpful.

i just had an ultrasound that detected a 6 cm ovarian cyst with nodule, will this need to be removed?

Yes.: The fact that the cyst contains a solid nodule makes it more likely to be a tumor (either benign, or hopefully not-malignant), and make it important to have surgery to remove it. There are some lab tests that your doctor can order that can help to stratify it as higher or lower risk to be a cancer, but it should be removed.

Usually: Most of the time there are characteristics which strongly favor a benign cyst on us - close followup and time will verify this.

i was diagnosed with 5.2 cm ovarian cyst. it doesn't cause me problems, i didn't even know that before the ultrasound. is surgery necessary?

Cysts will resolve: Small cysts on the ovary are very common.  The overwhelming majority will resolve on their own without surgery. Although they may hurt the best treatment is to take Ibuprofen for the pain and to wait to see if it goes away. Usually obgyns will repeat the sonogram 6-8 weeks later to confirm the cyst has resolved.

Yes it can recur: The ovary is remarkable in that it can continue to produce cysts under hormonal stimulation. Even after one has been removed, the ovary has others. You are born with a certain number of these follicles and they can be troublesome

Ovarian cysts: It depends upon what your ca 125 is as well as your symptoms. The risks are that it is an ovarian cancer or that it will twist and cause severe pain (ovarian torsion).

what does mean to have a thick septation on ovarian cyst? 5cm, left, grown within a few mts. white rounded line on ultrasound. i have endo. is this ok

Information: Is the septation 5cm or the cyst? Since you know you have endometriosis, it could be an endometiroma. However, septated cysts are often monitored closely, with frequent ultrasounds and follow up until regression which can take up to a year. Some doctors feel it necessary to take it out to make sure it isn't cancerous.Do you have other symptoms?I think you should definitely talk to your doc further
