i have type 2 diabetes for 3 years now and i have never been so thirsty. i am not  urinating anymore more than usual if anything i have been going les?

Check sugars: Diabetes, when uncontrolled, can cause people to become very thirsty because sugars over 200 lead to excess sugar ; water going out of the body in the urine.  If sugars are mostly under 200, something else is making you thirsty.  Regular sugar checks can help you know if it's the diabetes or something else.

will spironolactone lower my sodium number further?it is 128 and i have been removed from hctz due to it.will it harm my kidneys further?i have ckd stage 3,diabetes type 2 and hypertension.i am on insulin,losartan and carvedilol too?

: No, it should not. Low blood sodium (hyponatremia) is a well-known side effect of hctz especially if you have a habit or you were advised of increased fluid intake. However, your doctor should check potassium (K) with this combination in 2 weeks because K will likely go up with this combination in patient with CKD. If K is mildly high, you only need to lower K intake, no need to stop new diuretic.

New diagnosis?: Hi. Is this a new diagnosis? If so, your doc should discuss some things with you and refer you for diabetes education. Do you know your A1c? It sounds like you need diabetes education! The informed, motivated patient is always the most successful. Your fatigue could easily be due to very high sugars. Healthy diet and regular exercise are vitally important. See a diabetes educator and nutritionist.

29 yo female, morbidly obese, hbp & type 2 diabetes. been having heart palpitations for three days. er says clean ekg and did nothing else and clean echo 11/16. if this isn't coming from my heart then where is it coming from?

: One normal EKG &amp; a normal echocardiogram aren't sufficient to evaluate your symptoms of palpitations. You must wear an outpatient cardiac monitor until it records your symptoms to determine whether you're experiencing true cardiac arrhythmias. Your MD or a cardiologist can arrange for monitoring your heart &amp; thyroid tests. Can stress be a factor?  In the meantime avoid alcohol &amp; caffeine.

i accidently took my diabetes medicine twice. i'm just supposed to take it twice all day but i took it three times.?

Which medication?: Oral hypoglycemic agents may cause hypoglycemia.  If you took an excess of this type of medication you may run into low blood sugars for hours and through the night.  Please contact your doctor about this today particularly if you have issues which may be complicated by low blood sugars.  Check your blood sugars more often and through the night. Certainly with low blood sugar symptoms also check.

Depends on medicines: There are different types of diabetes rxs. Depending on which particular rx was taken excessively -- a person may have later risks of low glucose (hypoglycemia). For common rxs such as metformin and pioglitazone, an isolated extra dose will not cause problems. For Insulin or sulfonylureas (glipizide, glimepirude) -- these may cause hypoglycemia later  -- will need to follow glucoses to see.

No: Diabetes is coming from either lack of Insulin production or body cells being resistant to insulin. In either case medicine can help to fix the deficit. But, diabetes doesn't go away. Some people are able to control it probably like you with diet and exercise though.

It's not sugar: Sugar intake has nothing to do with diabetes, although the calories are "empty" without nutrition. It's age, family history and weight! it's the total calories you take in vs. Those you born off, if you're overweight and have a family history of diabetes, decrease  your caloric intake.

Risk factors: The biggest risk factor seems to be positive family history of type one, especially if on the fathers side but for the majority of type i diabetics, no risk factor can be identified. There might be an environmental element.

Accepted Answer

No: Only treated for the present time. Active research is undergoing though to find a cure. Please check with your local diabetes chapter if your interested in participating in the cause to find a cure.
