i have had test done they found 2 tumor on liver. been sick and in pain what chances could it be cancer. they were not there a year ago?

Get a workup: The masses are either cancer or they are not. Focal nodular hyperplasia can pop up, or a different radiologist may have spotted / chosen to report something minor. If they are primary liver cancer, you have a fair shot at a cure with today's treatment. Metastatic disease is much less likely to be curable but you may have a good year or two & you won't be abandoned. Good luck.

Not good. : Chemotherapy regiments, including targeted therapy, have improved response rates, including regional chemotherapy into the hepatic artery via a pump or with microspheres, all of which may prolong survival and improve quality of life.

Possibly: An array of liver tumors noted.  Benign cystic lesions as well as hemangiomas of no concern.  Metastatic lesions from breast, colon, lung, etc will grow and destroy liver if not managed by resection or chemoembolization .  Primary tumors such as hepatoma usually result of cirrhosis from Hep C and cholangioCa arising in bile duct can be very serious and must be treated early.

Chemoembolization : Chemoembolization is a good option for patients who are not candidates for other therapies, but it is not a good choice when liver function is poor.  In general, we don't do chemoembolization in patients with bilirubin levels above 3.0, baseline encephalopathy, or ast or alt levels above 100 (unless the patient has hepatitis, in which case 100 is not too bad).  Blood clotting issues are usually correctable and should not impact the plan to do chemoembolization.

Chemoembolization is not considered curative, but rather palliative.  That means that it slows the tumor down, which may help to keep the patient within acceptable limits for transplantation.

External beam radiation is not usually used in liver cancer because the normal liver is more sensitive to radiation than the tumor is.  On the other hand, it is often possible to do internal radiation with a technique called selective internal radiation therapy (sirt), also known as radioisotope embolization.  This technique can be used in patients with very compromized liver function and appears to be very effective.

Larger than 10 cm: Large growing tumors of the liver are usually metastat ic and in particular, derived from colon cancer.  Tumors in the liver only grow in liver and can reach enormous size replacing a large part of that organ.  If solitary, resection is possible even at 10-cm in size.  To use radiofrequency ablation because there are several lesions in both lobes the lesion should not be more than 5 cm.

Sorry to hear: It is hard to give recommendations since we do not know all the information pertaining your case. Two things i would suggest: first, make sure your doc has expertise in management of these rare cancers. I personally refer them to an academic center. Second, you should get genetic testing for lifraumeini (p53 mutation), especially if there's family history of cancer. Best to you and god bless.

It does happen: Many tumors, especially without noticeable symptoms, are diagnosed following metastasis.  Depending upon how the tumor appears under the microscope, a pathologist can often point out precisely where it came from, or, usually, a likely region.  From there, it is a group effort, often involving pathologists, radiologists, and, in this case a gastroenterologist or general surgeon.
