Stem cells for knee : It is still an experimental treatment, where the stem cells from another joint like hip are concentrated in a centrifuge and then injected into knee.Only a hand full of doctors are administering this treatment around us.So far the results have been pretty good.Two third of patients report more than 50% relief, and 40% reported 75% relief..The complete result will be published later this year.

Stem cells: Exactly what sort of surgery is planned? Stem cells are still investigational, but they are unlikely to cause harm. The idea is to use them to augment healing. Presently there are no clear studies to say that they work. That is not an issue with the stem cells, but is a fact that there have just not been adequate controlled studies done. Watch out for the cost as it may not be covered by insurance.

Unlikely: If you are knee has degenerated to the point where you not only have lost your meniscus, but all the cartilage that cushions the knee, then you likely possess very severe osteoarthritis. Stem cell treatments and cartilage regeneration procedures are usually best utilized for potholes or small holes in the cartilage after trauma.

More research needed: Interesting question! stem cells are fascinating and do have cannaboid receptors. It is thought marijuana might increase stem cell proliferation and direct their migration to bone marrow, but this research is preliminary and much more research is needed before any conclusions can be reached. Probably not: It does not sound like you are really having enough problems ("minor back and knee pain") to really pursue that.  Even procedures that sound neat can have complications associated with them and you would hate to have problems worse than your original condition.
