Low blood flow: Calcification & narrowing or blockage of the very smallest arteries results in low blood flow, low oxygen, and low nutrition to the site. Most common affected are feet & toes. Low blood flow, tissue trauma, skin ulcer formation & infections result in infected, dead, or gangrenous tissue at the site. Serious infections or gangrenous tissue can lead to amputation if unable to be corrected or healed.

Phantom pain: The brain does not necessarily adapt to amputation, and may persist in sensing limb presence, and harm to limb even though gone.  This creates a painful feedback loop with neurogenic central pain reactions.  Can be handled with nerve pain suppressant meds such as lyrica, (pregabalin) gabapentin, amitryptiline, cymbalta, etc.

Here are some...: Organ or tissue removal should be the last resort of medical care after no hope to survive and to restore its presumptive function. So, dislocated knee alone should not lead to amputation unless the circulation to lower extremity is deprived enough to render the local tissue nonviable and irreversalble to restore its designated function. So, ask the treating doc for definite individual specifics.

Unsure: Most drugs are not perfect and are associated with potential negative effects.  Be sure the prescribing physician is aware of all medical issues, allergies, etc.  That said, invokana is commonly used to treat diabetes.  Control of diabetes may be the best thing for the kidney.  Treatement dosing is modified in the context of known mild kidney disease.

See below: No one is really sure although the evidence suggests that if the limb was painful prior to the amputation, there is a higher liklihood of phantom pain after the amputation.
