my father had uti or prostatitis 4 months ago and catheterized up until 2 mnths ago. now his urine is clear sometimes and completely turbid in few hours. on routine, 14-16epithelial cells  2-4pus cells seen. is this worrying? he is cmplty asymptmatc?

Normal urine: It sounds like his urinalysis is normal. With that plus no symptoms, all is well. Cloudy urine is not usually a sign of infection. It results mostly from microscopic mineral (phosphate) crystals and depends on diet and fluid intake. (You can test this easily:  add a bit of acid like vinegar or lemon juice to a cloudy sample and watch it immediately clear up.) If in doubt, check with his doctor.

was catheterized 12/6 in pm for urine retention and given flomax (tamsulosin).  is it normal, when not drinking a lot to still be producing like 900 cc's of urine in a 4 hr time frame 2-3 days later?

Accepted Answer

Urine volume: 225 cc an hour is a lot of urine, but withouot more information about your medical condition and what your dietary intake was prior to measuring your output it is difficult to comment on.  It is not impossible for this to be normal under some circumstances, but if this remains constant go back and discuss with your doctor.

is it normal for catheterized patient to have small amount of rbc like 6 to 8 per hpf in urine routine test? my dad was catheterized due to infection and prostatomegaly now the infection is in control but in urine routine after 10 days rbc was seen.

RBC in urine: Most catheterized persons have a few RBCs in their urine. This is normal and nothing to worry about.

i am experiencing  urinary dribbling and abnormal urine stream. recently catheterized during surgery could this have caused my issues?

Urethral stricture?: It sounds like you might have a urethral stricture, which on rare occasions might result from infection or irritation from a catheter. Prostate problems are the most common explanation overall, but uncommon at your age. For sure see your doctor soon about this; s/he probably will refer you to a urologist.

Normal urinalysis: This is your second question about this. As discussed previously, phosphate crystals are normal in the urine; there is no need or reason to do anything about them. The important thing is that your dad has no UTI at this time. Discuss with his doctor (or as your dad to do so) if you remain concerned. Don't let yourself be obsessed by meaningless urinalysis results. Nothing is wrong.

urine tests pos for leukocytes, cultures and catheterized sample and ct scan all neg. only symptom is some pain in kidney area. could this be an std?

Possibly: If you had leukocytes and dysuria with negative culture i would say yes, but the flack pain is unusual with an std. You should still probably be screened if you are concerned or at risk for an std.

10 yrs ago pap smear showed hpv. all paps normal since. now urine pos leukocytes, catheterized sample & ct scan neg, some flank pain. could it be hpv?

Unlikely: Hpv does not cause leukocytes in the urine nor flank pain.  Most hpv infections are cleared by the immune system and 10 years of normal pap smears is a good sign.  Speak with your doctor.

How much?: If it is less than 30 mg/day, it is normal. If it is more than 300 mg/day, you should seek care as it is an indication of renal damage. Between 30 and 300 would require some investigation. See this site for more info.

Can be: Any medication that suppresses pain or relaxes muscles can have an effect on the bladder.  This can be amplified if the patient is already borderline in their voiding.  Many medications have side effects that can effect the bladder.
