Infection during pregnancy leads to risk for low birth weight,  respiratory ; genital infections in the baby, early delivery ; infection within the uterus.

: Trichomonas is usually diagnosed by a "wet smear" under a microscope.  Ciprofloxin or other quinolone antibiotics do not treat trichomonas, and a repeat urine culture/sensitivity is needed to determine an appropriate antibiotic for a "persistent UTI".

: A positive test for trichomonas (usually by a "wet smear" which shows live trichomonas under the microscope) may be negative for  a particular time, but a repeat test is justified to discover a need for treatment of all partners involved.

No, but.....: Trich is an STD and needs to be treated. It is transmittable to others and will cause a vaginal smell like you wouldn't believe! So to avoid embarrassment, treat it. But it won't necessarily cause a serious problem like, say, chlamydia or syphilis or other STD's.
