i have a torn ligament in my lower back above my buttocks. my doctor has prescribed me to take naproxen. will naproxen effect my ibs?

Yes it likely will: Depends upon how sensitive your system is to these meds. I would say it wouldn't likely be harmful to try. However, given that these meds are likely to aggravate your condition, why not try tylenol (acetaminophen) (no effect)? Salonpas hot patches, ice/heat also will not affect  your GI system. On the contrary, Naproxen will not heal this ligament, only time does that...

Conservatively : A ligament tear is a sprain. This will usually respond to rest & ice packs, initially. Followed  by  heat, massages, stretching exercises & otc nsaids. This is then followed by strengthening exercises. When pain free, you should looke into participating in a pilates &/or yoga class. This will provide you with a strong body and help prevent future problems.

Orthopedic specialis: If possible get evaluated,treated and followed for this injury by an orthopedic specialist as it  can lead to lifelong chronic ankle symptoms not properly treated. I have seen a few such patients who didn't have appropriate treatment when first seen and they didn't do well ending up needing specialized corrective surgery by a specialist in ankle injuries at a university hospital orthopedic departm

Yes: If u sprained your ankle ligament(s)it depends on the severity of the sprain. Generally an acute more severe ankle sprain can be tx. In a cam walker for 7-10 days followed by a period of mobilization/bracing and therapy. Severe( grade3.)ankle sprains may take 4-6 wks. To heal. See your ors.

Larbal tear.: It could be  a labral tear. Hip MRI's are not that easy to read. See an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip arthroscopy, for an accurate diagnosis.

Depends: Probably none initially or pre-operatively.  If not operative or if post operative, then one will have range of motion exercises, strengthening exerc ises and balance and proprioceptive exercises.

Usually splint: X-rays cannot see ligaments, therefore if a finger x-ray showed a ligament injury, it was most likely due to an avulsion injury (the ligament is not torn but actually tears a small piece of bone away from its point of attachment).  This is usually treated by immobilization, sometimes by surgery.  It is best to consult a hand surgeon for a definitive treatment plan.

No you don't: Unless you have had a severe seatbelt injury, your diagnosis is incorrect. LBP is generally caused by DDD. Ligament injury, as a cause of LBP, is extremely rare.

Months: It can take a long time to heal torn ligaments, especially in areas like the back that you really can't give full rest to. Think of football players that get turf-toe and it bothers them the entire season - it's very similar. I would highly recommend physical therapy if not doing it. Can help you with alternative ways to sit/move/lie to reduce stress on that area of back.

Torn muscle: Healing depends on degree of trauma, type of muscle, location of joints, age, and degree of rest. Like wise so many variable. Some doesn't heal at all without surgical treatment.
