Check with your OBGY: Peritonitis , may be the result of leaked ovarian cystic fluid. Typically the peritonitis is localized to the immediate area of ovaries and fallopian tubes. If the cyst is small most likely need minor treatment and observation( advil), if it is big you have to be careful .Follow doctor instruction.

Any irritation : Of the peritoneal lining of the abdominal cavity is peritonitis.  An ovarian cyst can bleed when it ruptures, and blood can cause a local peritonitis.  But this is way different from bacterial peritonitis, which is what results from perforated GI organ, like appendix.  These are much worse, and can actually be fatal.  So seriousness depends on the source and type of peritonitis.

: Ruptured ovarian cysts do not necessarily lead to any problem much less to adhesions. Formation of adhesions is mostly from inflammation and previous abdominal surgery

Trust pelvic US: Every woman differs, but usually 6-8 weeks. You might want to temporarily ease off sexual activity until you are pain free. If pain worsens or fever, seek medical attention. Doubt it has connection to appendix even though pain is in same general area. Good luck, heal soon.

Observation: Ovarian cysts commonly rupture causing a sudden onset of pain but typically resolves on its own.  If there is no bleeding and the cyst has ruptured try taking NSAIDs (ibuprofen,naproxen,etc) for the pain and discomfort.  If you continue to have discomfort follow up with your GYN or family doctor is recommended.

Rest: If this Ultrasound was recent and they made sure you are not pregnant, rest from sexual activity, Naprosyn (naproxen) for pain should allow the cyst to calm down. Should more severe pain occur a recheck at the emergency room would be indicated.

Varies: Some doctors try to make the ovaries rest.  This can be done with birth control pills or hormone injections.  If there is no ovulation there may be no cysts or smaller cysts that do not rupture.
