In most cases the body can heal bme by removing the source of irritation, e.g. Stop running and jumping if related to a stress fracture in knee or have a torn meniscus fragment removed if that is the underlying cause.  There is a new surgical treatment  for bme of knee when all else fails.

Bme or bone bruise is not treated; if symptomatic, the cause is treated.   Conservative treatment,  infusion of prostacycline or bisphosphonates, and surgery are options.  "bone marrow edema syndrome" is an entity.

Marrow edema: Marrow edema is nonspecific and can be caused by numerous abnormalities. The treatment would be for the underlying cause of the edema.   It sounds like your physician thinks it is traumatic in nature.  If you don't recall any trauma,  you may have low bone density(osteoporosis) which can result in fractures with no or minimal trauma.  Speak with your doctor about the next steps.

Avoid sitting down for long periods of time.
You can purchase a "doughnut" cushion or pillow to sit on. 
Motrin and pain medications.
Eat foods high in fiber to soften stools and avoid constipation.
Sits bath twice a day.
 Injections of steroid the painful sometimes required.
 Rarely, you may need surgery.

Needless : Needless to say, now that you have your MRI report, your questions are really best answered by your doctor.

So that you are properly armed with information, in general terms, you have several places where the bone has been injured, but not fractured around your ankle and foot.  More significantly, you have a torn ligament on the outside (lateral) part of your ankle.  The anterior talo-fibular ligament is the most frequently injured ligament in an ankle injury.  According to the mri, this is a full thickness tear, or rather a complete tear, not just a few fibers.  You also have some partial tears of other ligaments.

So, in short, you have a pretty significant soft tissue injury to your ankle.  No fractures, however.  Depending on your age and level of activity, there is a good chance you'll require surgery to repair at least one of those torn ligaments.  And, since ligaments receive less blood than bone, they take longer to heal, so you'll probably be in a cast, off-weight bearing, for a couple of months, and also have a course of physical therapy.
