: You have reached the public educational site for HT, where questions are answered by volunteer doctors, but here we do not diagnose, prescribe, treat, refer, or manage.  A medical marijuana card must be obtained in one's  home state from a properly licensed physician.  This is not available from HealthTap personnel.

Medical : Medical marijuana refers to the use of marijuana for medicinal reasons. 16 states (including the district of columbia) have medical marijuana laws. In those states, medical marijuana must be recommened by a physician for a particular condition that is covered under that state's law.  Medical marijuana cards are issued by the public health department in those states. The state of texas does not have a medical marijuana registry - so it can not be legally prescribed to you if you live in la marque, texas.

i have vulvodynia and someone suggested medical marijuana because i'm taking gabapentin and it's not helping. would that be a better option?

Marijuana: I see that you're in georgia, where marijuana is not legal.  "medical" marijuana would be problematic for you in that case.  If your current medications are not helping your vulvodynia, you need to tell your doctor and work towards something that provides relief.  Please discuss your ideas with your physician so that you can have a full conversation about them.

by all means not attacking, but why so against the use of medical marijuana vs opiates, which could lead to harsh addiction etc? i would like a 2nd op

I look forward to it: More states are (hopefully) considering the legalization of medical marijuana. It seems to be true (as you say) that it is far superior to opiate pain medication. It has further benefits beyond pain management too, but research has been almost impossible to do so far.  I'm sure there will be problems - everything humans do has problems - but it will be an improvement, imho.

i got my appendix taken out laparoscopically a week and 2 days ago. ive used medical marijuana my whole life and was wondering if itd be okay to consume edibles instead of smoking because i dont want to cough?

: You should ask your surgeon if this would be ok or not. You should let him know the amount of marijuana in the edibles, what type of edibles you are talking about so that the surgeon can make a decision about ingesting these. So, call your surgeon. Good luck!

can a person with macular edema get medical marijuana?

Medical marijuana: Medical marijuana does nothing to help macular edema.  Historically, people have thought that they could treat glaucoma (elevated intraocular pressures) with marijuana, but this is not the case.  The iop lowering effects of this drug are very short lived and so currently this is not an accepted mode of treatment for this condition.

im a medical marijuana patient and i was wondering does marijuana have any effects on antibiotics a person may take?

Usually not: I am not aware of any interaction between marijuana and any antibiotic. It may be helpful to search the web before you take antibiotic, though, but, as mentioned earlier, no known interaction has been reported.

i am on medical marijuana but just got a picc line in from a infection. can i still smoke my medical marijuana with a picc line?

Yes: Smoking marijuana and having a picc line in have not contraindications.  It would be good to know why your are taking the marijuana.  It alone could affect your general health but i see no connection to this and the picc line itself.  I would discuss this thoroughly with your prescribing doctor.

hello! i am getting a titer test done for a job interview. i do have medical marijuana in my system. will this show up in the titer test?

: It depends on the test. Many companies do a broad based drug screening to detect any mind altering drug use in job applicants. These job related tests are exempt from drug testing rules of many states that require your written permission. Your application for the job waves your rights to consent. If they look for it they will find it. They may not consider you for employment based on that factor.
