: The Issue is whether a person produces excess gas or whether it's a problem of passing normal amounts of gas through the intestinal tract. If a colon cancer obstructs the descending colon, gas can't be passed out through the rectum. Metamucil,a fiber supplement, can produce excessive gas. Taking simethicone 1/2 hour after a meal can prevent gas buildup from meals.

how to get rid of gas pain after colon surgery?  i've been walking a lot, but still a lot of trapped gas.  how many days does it take to get 1st bm?

Few days: A few days usually. Remember you have not eaten for some days in between. If you are passing gas and no movement try taking a laxative to help with the first movement then it still maybe agee days until food goes thru ur system to get back to normal if you are not passing any gas maybe a bigger problem and you should get looked at asap.

Yes: however other conditions can cause your symptoms too.  Lactose intolerance can develop in later years, as can some infectious diseases.  Spastic colon is often a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning you need to rule out other causes before coming to your diagnosis.  It's always a good idea to get an exam and confirm the diagnosis with your physician.

Subtle bleed vs.obst: Depending on what side of the colon a lesion arises, symptoms are different.  The fecaloid material within the rt. colon is essentially liquid and when passing over the tumor causes little symptoms.  On the left side the stool is devoid of water and very firm. Passing over the tumor causes possible bleeding and when tumor large the feces cant pass and obstruction develops.

Technically: It's not really a disease but rather a description of the state of your colon.

Depends: Some grow at different rates--weeks to months more likely time frame. General health, weight, and other factors impact this as well.

Will improve: Initially you may notice more frequent and looser bowel movements.  This should improve with time especially with a higher fiber diet.  However, you may never return to the number of daily bowel movenments you were having prior to the surgery.  This is due to the left colons primary role of absorbing water as stool moves through the colon.

Stinging pain: you may have proctalgia fugax which is caused by spasm s in your rectal region. Antispasmoticsmay be helpful

Abdominal cramps: If you are having ongoing abdominal cramps it is very unlikely caused by or related to the colonoscopy. Many possible causes of that problem, which is best reviewed and evaluated by a gastroenterologist.

Gas: Its most likely gas passing from one part to the other.  The colon has some turns to it, so as gas, fluid and solid matter moves around sounds may be made.  Its normal.
