Noon Nap: The question is why do you have sleep inertia after you sleep, it could be a sign of inadequate sleep or insomnia or could be a sign of excessive sleepiness due to sleep apnea
sleep study is important.

Stay up: Jet lag is a mismatch between your internal clock and the external world if possible begin to shift to the new time zone (or at least a few hours closer to new zone) prior to leaving.  Once you depart immediately begin eating and sleeping according to new time zone.  Once you arrive get out. Into the morning and afternoon sunlight and take melatonin at bedtime, these help to reset your clock.

Helping a friend: A great place to start is to think about how your friend's behavior is impacting you? Are you worried, do you spend less time together, have you noticed his functioning decline. Ask him permission to share your observations and let him know in your own words you are  looking out for him.

Going through phase: If his energy during the day is good and his growth and development is normal then don't worry.  Just try to stick with a regular nap/play schedule and it should resolve.  As for your insomnia, you do have my sympathies!

Sleep : you need to develop rituals to sleep. First, you need to avoid putting your baby on your chest to sleep because they get used to it and will refuse to do it any differently. Then try when they cry to wait 3-5 minutes, then try to calm your baby down without picking her up or feeding her. Next time she cries wait 10 minutes and do the same thing.

Whenever: Naps can be rejuvenating anytime of day.  Often people like to nap after a meal; many countries observe siesta after lunch to allow for food digestion and to allow for a more amenable work schedule.

It will: Help but your body will take time to adjust to the new time zone.   Power naps will help with the transition. But not eliminate the jet lag

Need 7-8 hours: Most people need 7-8 hours of sleep a day (although many are not getting that much). Within limits it does not seem to matter if it is all at night, or some of it is through a nap. You are aiming for 6 1/2 hours, which really is not enough. Not getting enough time in bed makes people tired and sleepy and reduces their cogntive ability.

Yes. Success!: We (doctors, moms, dads, neighbors, etc.) all want babies to sleep through the night after they are 3 months old. Parents with babies who sleep through the night are lucky parents. As long as a baby is growing fine on his measurements at the check-ups, and is healthy, parents don't need to wake up a sleeping baby at night, and don't have to wonder if the baby is sleeping too much or too little.
