Recommendations: Give the cat box cleaning job to someone else if you become pregnant.  Avoid contact with the feces.  Testing is not likely to be of value.

No: If you are pregnant or considering getting pregnant it could be useful to know of you have immunity to toxoplasmosis although these tests are not routinely done.  If you are not immune you would need to avoid cat feces as contracting this in pregnancy is dangerous for the baby.

Follow your Docs adv: Follow your doctor's advice.  It is not customary to test all women who own an indoor cat before they become pregnant.  You did not indicate you have any reason to believe you currently have an infection.

my wife is 3 weaks preagnent an she had her toxoplasmosis test and tested positive with igm 7.05 and igg 81.0.is there any risk on the fetus thx?

Toxoplasmosis: Highly improbable that she has had acute Toxoplasmosis during pregnancy. This pattern suggests old infection. If she ever becomes profoundly immune suppressed it is possible to reactivate Toxoplasmosis and so her doctors should be aware of the prior history of exposure. It is one of those organisms that once having acquired you never get rid of. Fetus should be fine.

Toxo: IgG indicates previous infection or exposure prior to the pregnancy.  This means she is not at risk for a first time infection during this pregnancy.   Which is good!

No: The damage is done in the womb & it would be obvious at birth.  And it would not be running as a treatable infection for nine years. Please be careful as well about the early diagnosis of a lifetime-stigmatizing diagnosis of "mood disorder" in a nine year old -- both parenting and growing up are painful and confusing for all of us; talk with a physician with common sense who knows kids. Two tests: Diagnosis of infection is facilitated if you take a test now to establish the baseline and repeat the test in about three months to see the change, if any. If you develop any symptoms, like fever or enlarged lymph glands, see your doctor for a repeat test sooner.

Nothing: A false negative on this type of testing is a function of the test itself, so nothing that you do, or don't do, will change the accuracy of the test.  Good luck.

Now: You can have a titer drwan now, if positive you are already immune, if negative recheck in 4 to 6 weeks to see if you have recently acquire toxoplasmosis.  You should be aware, you do not get toxoplasmosis from eating raw meat, unless you first handled cat litter and did not wash your hands well.  If you have cats, you may have already had toxoplasmosis and the lab work will disclose that.
