Toxoplasma infection: Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic infection by a protozoa called Toxoplasma gondii. Common ways it can be spread is through contaminated food or handling feces of infected cats. It may not cause any sx's in healthy people or mild sxs like the flu. It remains inactive in the body &amp; activates with immunosupression. It can significant health problems or death in a fetus.

Calcifications.: One may see fetal intracranial hyperechogenic foci or calcifications and ventricular dilatation on prenatal ultrasound, and these are poor prognostic signs. Intrahepatic densities, increased thickness and hyperdensity of the placenta, ascites, and rarely pericardial and pleural effusions have also been observed. Fetal demise and poor fetal growth are not as likely.

No cure needed,,,: This is an infection you can get from almost anywhere.  Cats are the main host, and they get it from contact with the soil, so humans can get it from them and the soil also, as well as at birth.  But our immune system takes care of it so no therapy is needed, unless one gets immunocompromised, like with aids or an organ graft.  So if steps are taken not to get aids, and diet & exercise are done, .

Everywhere: Wherever there is cat feces (domestic, wild, lions, tigers), there is plenty of toxoplasmosis.  Eating undercooked meat is another important way to meet the organism.  Toxoplasmosis usually gets missed clinically; its frequency in a community depends on physician index of suspicion.

i'm pregnant. i have igg+ for toxoplasma before pregnant. can it protect my fetus? can i infection repeat it again during pregnant?

Nobody knows: We usually suggest a 6 minth waiting period after an infection, as there is a small but not zero risk of reactivating during peegnancy.  See an infectious disease doctor.

No: Toxoplasmosis is a parasite that lives in soil.  I have never heard of contracting it from a sponge.  If were the case, a lot of women would be at risk. Avoid cat litter and garden with gloves, those are 2 most common ways to get it. Hope that helps!

See below: Toxoplasma infection is difficult to eliminate, especially in pregnant women. The treatment for it - antibacterial medications. Dexamethason is given to pregnant women who are facing preterm labor or in need to terminate the pregnancy for maternal reasons  to help baby's lung to mature faster. Your baby might have a congenital toxoplasma infection & have complications from it, not necessarily die.

No: There's no such thing as toxoplasma igg infection. Toxoplasma igg is a lab test that tells you that at some time in your life you were exposed to the toxoplasma parasite and probably have latent infection. It would not cause gas.

Lung damage...: ...Can take much longer to heal than the infection itself. This would be worse if the baby is also premature.

Brain cyst: Mri studies are extremely sensitive born brain cysts and they detect even small ones - if related to infection these cysts typically enhance with contrast.
