Lung damage...: ...Can take much longer to heal than the infection itself. This would be worse if the baby is also premature.

Lung damage: The infection of the lungs was very severe and an infant's respiratory system is not fully developed at birth. Lung units which help to oxygenate the blood continue to develop during childhood. Your daughter required a ventilator since there was lung damage from the infection. Your physicians used the high frequency ventilator to deliver oxygen and to open the lungs.
