i work out a lot, for a week i've had a horrible pinching pain under the middle of my right ribs espec when walking. is this worse than a torn muscle?

Possibly: intercostal neuritis: an inflammation of the nerves between your ribs: you should be examined and get an x-ray. Usually NSAIDS ( Advil/Aleve ) will help as will a rib belt.

can it be that a cracked rib or torn muscle occur when you are sick for 3 weeks with a flu cough?

Yes: A cough can be forceful enough to pull a muscle and even break ribs. If you are experiencing significant pain or having shortness of breath you, should consult your doctor to see if an x-ray is needed.

1 week postpartum & i have pain on my left side right below my ribs. it stabs and burns when i move. is it a torn muscle?

Needs exam: It's hard to say what your problem is without examining you, but a stabbing pain in the left side with movement could be a muscle injury, which isn't uncommon after delivery (especially if prolonged or difficult labor). Many other possibilities include rib fractures, ulcers, splenic infarct , zoster (shingles) to name a few. If this is troublesome you should see your doctor for an evaluation.

Could be: If pain is reproduced with deep palpation or stretching most likley muscular if not furthar testing is needed.

Yeyes: Yes torn muscles can cause problems with spine. Everyone is born with sweat glands that function differently. See your doctor for an evaluation.

Costochondritis?: Inflammation of a rib, usually only on one side, that is increased by inspiration is treatable.  A pulled muscle should respond spontaneously.  So depending on how long its been bothering you, you should see your doctor and get evaluated and treated.

my stomach can't handle vicodin. i was given robaxin (methocarbamol) 750 for a torn muscle in my chest, does it have the same effect as vicodin?

Not likely: These two drugs are in different classes and the chances of Robaxin (methocarbamol) causing stomach symptoms are very low compared to Vicodin which contains an opiate- the class of drugs known to  be associated with GI upset and constipation.

Could be...: Did you do an activity that where you could have done this.  If this was from some activity, you should  be able to recall what you did in the last 48-72 hours and that likely was the cause, if this is a pulled muscle.  Did they also check your lungs, is the pain still there or now gone? Sounds like the er said it was not your heart but didn't give you a likely diagnosis. Look into tietze's.

Hard to say: Rib problems can cause a lot of pain for a long time and can cause spasms. This is expected. See your MD for evaluation and meds If needed. If still concerned, additional imaging might be needed.  Ibuprofen and a muscle relaxant might help

Traum: Certainly possible, although a contusion to the muscle or surrounding tissues would be more likely.
