i  have pacs even while taking verapamil 180mg.  my cardiologist has recommended adding toprol xl 25 mg because of the symptomatic palpitations.  im concerned about taking both drugs.  also bistolic previously caused me intense fatigue.  thoughts?

: BB and CCBs are often given together. If one BB causes fatigue another may not. Only way to tell is to try it.  Keep a diary of heartbeat and fatigue issues.  Ask if blood potassium is low.

ive been on toprol xl 50mg for 18 years. up until last week, my bp was great 110/78. for a week now, the average is 140/90. what could cause it to be this way all a sudden? can rbbb/lpfb cause elevated bp? it just seems sudden and random?

Equally effective: Toprol XL is the long acting formulation of metoprolol. So equal efficacy as long as dosing is equivalent. Metoprolpl is a twice a day drug and toprol is once daily.

Not likely: You might still experience light side effects, but the main thing will be to start using a pillbox in order to make sure this will not happen again in the future.

No additional risk: You are on a lot  of medication and they seem important - but do review them w/ your Dr(s) and always do when a new one is added. The melatonin adds no risk to the mix but some there already can cause moderate issues that ought not stop you but should be watched. Best wishes!

This is a safe and: effective strategy for management of hypertension. I would suggest you find another health care provider however, one who you trust. An effective trusting  therapeutic relationship is necessary for good health.

can't take toprol xl because the acid base bothers my bladder but regular metoprolol isn't controlling my high tachycardia well. any other options?

Accepted Answer

Yes: There are several other b-blockers that can slow your heart down (coreg, bystolic) and there are also some calcium channel blockers that do the same (diltizem and verapamil).  Ask your doctor if you can try one of these.
