Abcess: It may be an abscess. Treatment is warm, wet compresses. Observe for drainage of puss. Clean surrounding skin with rubbing alcohol to kill any staph bacteria. Pat dry, cover with nonsticking gauze held in place with paper tape after applying  antibacterial ointment daily. See MD if spreading redness, increased swelling,increased pain.

hi. i dropped a shelf on my top part of my foot. its now swollen and sore and not so easy to walk on. do i need an x-ray?

Foot accident: Yes, please seek medical help.  You will likely be given an x-ray.  You don't want any possible breaks or fractures to heal out of alignment.  That would cause more problems later.  Peace and good health.

the top of my foot aches. the tops of the last three toes feel very sore while bending but they are not swollen. what shouldi do?

DJD or tendinitis?: You may have DJD (degenerative joint disease). This is a form of arthritis, (painful inflammation of joints). If the pain is elsewhere (hands, etc), you may have a more systemic type of arthritis: rheumatoid or psoriatic. Another possibility is tendinitis. If you have irritated the muscle that pulls your toes up, each toe may be painful to bend, and the tendon on the top of your foot may hurt.

PERHAPS SEEK DR: Hard to say. Is your tetanus updated? You could get an infection and need antibiotics. I would check with you doctor.

Athletes Foot: Not every foot rash is af, but it is the most common.  It can cause rash, blisters, burning, itching, and crusting. Start by using an otc antifungal cream such as clotrimazole, otc cortisone cream for the itch, breathable /wicking shoes and socks. Keep feet clean and dry, especially between toes. Powders are good to dust toes and in shoes. If no improvement after a week-see a doctor.

i stepped on an old nail 2 days ago and it punctured my foot now the top of my foot is red and swollen and sore. idklast tetanus shot. is it too late?

See a podiatrist : You need to be seen immidately. In addition to needing a tetanus booster you need to be treated for a probable infection, should have an x-ray and may require surgery to clean the wound.

Gi-ant Pain.: Ant bites can be a pain. You are doing all the right things. Try elevating the foot and applying an ice pack to the area. Taking an anti inflammatory like Motrin may also help. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix.

hi i hurt my ankle it is soo sore on both sides and the top of my my foot it is a little swollen and bruised it hurts a lot to walk is it fractured?

It may be...: There is no way to tell for sure without x-rays.  Better get to a doctor and have it checked out.
