i have tooth rot under my crown of my tooth an need to see an oral surgeon to take it out on july 26 of this month. will the amoxicillin 500 mg work?

Antibiotics: Antibiotics should never be taken unless under supervision of Dentist or Physician.  You must take appropriate amount and for the entire course of the drug.  If you have left-over antibiotic pills, and you shouldn't if properly taken in the first place, don't just take the few that you have.  Talk to the Oral Surgeon or your Dentist about management until your extraction.

does saccharin have the same tooth-rotting ability of sugar?

Accepted Answer

Yes : Sorbitol, mannitol, maltitol and many other 'sugar alcohols'  can be broken down by bacteria in your mouth into acids that contribute to decay.   Chewing gum that contains either xylitol or recaldent however actually remineralizes your teeth and cannot be broken down by oral bacteria.

Cannot, really: Elimination of sugar and acids from your diet will help, but you must treat and remove the existing decay, or it will worsen. You must see the Dentist for evaluation and treatment, then continue to keep things clean and prevent further decay. Read labels of soda and foods, looking for acids (citric, phosphoric) and sugars (corn syrup,fructose,etc. ) Even diet sodas have acids. Good Luck.

See below: A compromised tooth (fracture, failing old filling) may need to be covered and protected by a crown.  First, there must be enuf healthy tooth as a foundation.  It may be necessary to do a "core buildup".  Then the tooth is reduced in all dimensions (ground down if you must), a mold (impression) is taken, and then a crown is custom fabricated to recreate the tooth that was once there.

No Sticky Foods: No sticky foods like taffy, jujubes, abba zabba that could stick to the crown and it's opposing tooth and pull the new crown off.  The crown cement needs to set.

Depends: It really depends on the condition of the tooth, is it otherwise healthy with intact walls?
If so then have the filling replaced so you floss there without a problem .
If the tooth is heavenly restored with large or multiple filling then crowning the tooth would be best.

Why Is it Drilled: It depends why the tooth is being drilled. If the bite is off, an adjustment of the tooth usually takes off a small fraction of a millimeter of the enamel outer coating. Small areas of decay can be drilled out & a simple filling placed.  When decay is deep, the tooth is fracture or more and 1/2 to 2/3 of the tooth needs restoring then a crown is needed.

Complex: The root canal treatment is probably now recontaminated and usually will need to be 'retreated'. However, if this loosening has occurred, then it may be that there is not enough solid tooth to support the crown and biting forces. Might not be a good idea to fix this, but rather extract it and have an implant placed with a crown after 3 - 4 months. See prosthodontist for options. Good luck.

Depends: Do you mean repairing a tooth with a crown or repairing a tooth with a crown already on the tooth? Repairing a tooth with a crown on is often possibly by putting a small filling at the edge of the crown where there is decay. If you mean repairing a tooth by placing a crown, then it is an entirely different procedure. After preparing the tooth, a dental lab makes the crown & the dentist cements it.

Just local: No need for anything more.  I find that giving only what is needed and thereby decreasing risk by not adding more drugs is the safest way to practice.
