Bacteria : Germs love to colonize the human mouth.  It's wet, warm, dark, and exposed to air as well as airless conditions.  Plus, there are nutrients from the food and saliva.

Plaque forms constantly, as a biofilm on the tooth surfaces.  As many as 1000 species of bacteria, in virtually infinite combinations must be removed twice a day.  Proper oral hygiene is necessary to keep the process in check.

Clove oil: Clove oil can be an effective oral anesthetic.  In studies, it has performed just as well as topical Benzocaine (anbesol and oragel).  It's safe when used correctly in small amounts, but can cause liver and respiratory problems when ingested in large quantities.  It's found in health food stores. To use it, apply a very small amount to a cotton swab and apply gently to the affected area.

Not much to tell..: The tooth in question was apparently asymptomatic for a long, long time. This may be due to a cavity, gum disease, or you may have fractured the tooth overnight while grinding. Call a local dentist for an evaluation and treatment.

Recession: Can be caused by improper brushing technique or toothbrush, poorly positioned tooth, infection (gum disease), occlusal trauma, gum-line decay, and other reasons.  You MUST see your Dentist before this gets worse.  Temporarily use desensitizing toothpaste (on a very soft toothbrush) and fluoride oral rinse.

See a dentist: See a dentist to determine both the cause of the abscess and the available treatment options. There is nothing you can do on your own other than take otc pain medication which will offer only temporary relief at best!

Open contact: An open interproximal contact will cause an acute stage of gingivitis that will cause pain and localized bleeding in the area due to food impaction.  Good contact between teeth will prevent or alleviate food impaction and ultimately gum pain.  If you have to floss due to food stuck after every time you eat, you definitely have open interproximal contact that needed to be close.  Call your dentist.

It can't hurt: But you will still need to see a dentist to treat the tooth. The garlic will not solve your problem. (btw, stop the garlic 24hrs before your appointment and brush and gargle well, too).. Nobody likes garlic breath.

See dentist: People have died from tooth infections that got out of hand. Nothing good will come from procrastinating and allowing the abscess to become larger. Some infections can quiet down and become chronic but that doesn't mean they went away. They usually become painful and cause swelling at 2am on a saturday night when there are no dental offices open.
