i'm on 50mg of zoloft, (sertraline) once a day. i accidentally took two doses tonight (wasn't thinking). should i worry about anything?

Treatment of Depression and anxiety is Therapy, Medication, Breathing Relaxation, Visual imagery, Yoga, and Meditation

No Problem: There is no problem if you took 2 50 mgm tablets.Take your next 50 mgm dose at the usual time.

No: I would use a pill box for your zoloft (sertraline) and vitamins so this does not have to be a concern in the future

Probably OK: If you  did  take  that  amount and  if you are   not  feeling  badly--nausea, shaky, toxic, you  will probably be OK.  BUT if   you  begin  feeling ill, sick, or toxic, you could be having a bad reaction and will need   immediate medical attention for  Serotonin Syndrome.  Do not  delay  in seeking  medical evaluation and treatment.

Probably OK: Kay, you are probably fine.  Since you are already on a relatively low dose of Zoloft, (sertraline) doubling the dose by accident is unlikely to cause any adverse effects.  I would go to sleep tonight and see how you feel in the morning.  If you do not feel good in the morning, consider going to the ED or contacting your physician.  In general you should be fine.

zoloft (sertraline) has helped my anxiety but now i feel in between emotions. i don't get overly excited like i use to and i don't get down as much.is this normal?

Paradox with Zoloft (sertraline): It is possible to have a paradoxical reaction to an antidepressant such as zoloft (sertraline).  These reactions: increasing anxiety or feeling no emotions means it is time to try a new medication.  This is not dangerous but it is common and needs to be addressed by the professional who you have been working wth.

Remember medicine: Medication needs to be a daily routine like brushing your teeth.  Ideally you would synchronize your med with an activity that occurs with the same frequency.  For once daily Zoloft (sertraline) that might mean putting it on the nightstand with your alarm clock.  It rings, you turn it off, take your pill and start your day. But take care that no one else has access to your medication.

That depends: The maximum recommended dose is 200mg but everyone responds to medication differently and the benefits of the medication must be weighed against the side effects.  I would not be concerned with the absolute dosage as much as i would be about (1) how well is it treating what it's supposed to be treating and (2) how tolerable is the medication.

Probably: The usual starting dose is 25 mg daily.  Please contact your physician to discuss the issue.

Accepted Answer

no: I don't know if you mean once, by mistake, or regularly.  If you doubled your dose by mistake once, it's unlikely to be harmful, although you might suffer serotonin side-effects (stomach upset, jitteriness, restlessness).  Taking 300 on a regular basis usually does more harm than good.  It's not okay if your doctor didn't prescribe it that way.
