Ingrown nail: The bleeding should stop with pressure is a few minutes.  Then apply a topical antibiotic that your not allergic to with a band aid over it.  Then - see your podiatrist for proper assistance and stop the bs aka bathroom surgery !   good luck.

at nail salon what is risk contract hiv or hep c. they dug out my ingrown toenail. then they used a new sponge from packaging, scrubbed bottom of foot and cut the side of my foot. i didnt realize cut until foot was grabbed and i had minimal bleeding?

: The risk for HIV is extremely low but Hep C infection is still possible because HIV is easily killed with the disinfectant(s) but not Hep C virus. However, in order to contract to Hep C virus you have to assume the equipment had been contaminated with Hep C virus before it was used for you so it is still a long shot.

One and Dome.: There is a multitude of reasons why ingrown toenails occur. The most common being injury, improper cutting, infection and aging. Regardless of the cause, the problem can be treated easily in the office. A small match stick size piece of nail is removed and the nail root treated to prevent any further growth of that piece of nail. It works great. I  performed this on my own nail and no problems.

The best thing you: Could possibly do is bring your toe to a podiatrist. It's dangerous and foolhardy to try to deal with this on your own, and you could make the infection worse. Removing ingorwn toenails is fast, painless and quick, and your eyes will bug out at the size of what you've got inside your skin. Soaking helps localize the infection, but the astringent action of water is not temperature dependent.

what do i do if my ingrown toenail is swollen and bleeding a lot?

Begin soak, bandage: Begin soaking in a vinegar/water (1:4 ratio) solution to calm the inflammation and to help soften the nail and nail fold.  Apply direct compression on the site that bleeding.  Once controlled, apply a bandaid over the top of the toe (not around the toe) to cover.  Make an appointment with a podiatrist to have the toenail evaluated and to get options for long-term treatment.

See Podiatrist: To get proper evaluation and treatment. This will require ingrown portion of nail to be cut out. In the mean time, try soaking and apply antibiotic cream/ointment. If ingrown is superficially and can be easily cut back, you can do this yourself but is deep nor difficult to do, get medical attention.

Soak: Soak the toe in warm water with epsom salts.  See your doctor to get it treated.  Take ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) for the pain.

Ingrown toenail: Ingrown toenails that are not treated correctly have a tendency to become infected. You should see your podiatrist for further evaluation.
