Evaluation: You can expect your dentist to evaluate the tooth in question and to determine what treatment, if any, needs to be performed. A simple fix can usually be accomplished at that visit.

Possibly: Bonding and labial veneers are a treatment that might help you, but only a qualified dentist could tell you for sure.

i have a tooth cavity left untreated for 3 years. i can't bite down on it and it looks grey as if enamel is gone. what should i do?

See a dentist!: It sounds like the tooth may have enough decay in it at this point that it is starting to break down and fall apart.  See a dentist immediately before you have a bad toothache.  Always better to prevent pain and infection rather than trying to remove it once present.

Grind or Clench?: Grinding and clenching your teeth while awake or asleep will wear the teeth and cause all sorts of clinical issues. If you have been told by your bedmate that you grind in your sleep you should moist definitely get a nite guard appliance. Control of grinding and clenching during the day presents a bigger challenge . See a professional.

after i removed my braces, i noticed that my bracketed teeth have become extremely sensitive. i am thinking either the enamel wore down in those teeth or my gums receded and the roots have become exposed. can eitherof those problems be corrected fully?

Depends on severity: If the crowns of the teeth are sensitive and the enamel is intact, you may be able to correct this using a product such as sensodyne.  If the enamel is severely damaged, restorative dental treatment may be your best option.  If root surface exposure, this again depends on the severity.  Gum tissue grafts would be a worst case scenario.  Some sensitivity can be considered normal though.

i can't grind my teeth due to overbite. can my tight lower bite splint have caused numerous crazelines on my lower incisors, or do i just have weak tooth enamel?

Craze lines: It's unlikely that you bitesplint is tight enough to cause any damage to your teeth, unless that is, you don't wear them every night. Even people with overbites can grind their teeth, especially when sleeping. The craze lines where probably already there from previous bruxism habit. The best one to answer your questions is your own dentist who can personally examine you & knows your dental history.

can i lose enamel from teeth bleaching too much?

Too much?: What is too much? We like to monitor our patients who whiten. Your teeth can become more translucent from over whitening or long term whitening. Studies have shown that there is minimal  change in the effects of enamel. However, if you are excessive with peroxide gels, dependent upon the hardness of your enamel, I am sure some damage can be had. Have a dentist check your teeth.

how do you know when your enamels wearing off?

Easily seen: If it is severe wear, you should be able to see the wear yourself. In the earlier stages a dentist can easily determine any enamel wear from any deviation from normal tooth anatomy such as wear facets.

Tooth enamel: Yes - once enamel is gone, it is gone.

Accepted Answer

Potential for decay: Without enamel protection, the less calcified dentin is exposed which is more susceptible to decay , acid erosion, and  sensitivity.
