Yellow tongue: Can you be more specific about the color, is it the entire tongue or just the top surface . The top surface can be brushed and scraped by a special tools you can buy from any drug store, the color takes on , is due to the individual diet , smokers, red wine , curry or spicy food , etc if pain is not present and tongue has no ulcers , you are fine.

my husband has a cyst on his tongue. a doctor told him to have it removed. it become red and swollen now. what should  he do?

Go to doctor: At home, he can try frequent oral rinsing with warm salt water and making sure he drinks enough water, but he really needs to be seen by an oral surgeon as your doctor suggested for evaluation and possible removal.

Salivary duct/stress: lumps most likely are salivary ducts and those can become painfully blocked....if not milked you may need to have removed.  Also, prolonged "deep"kissing can cause over stressed areas of the tongue and the bumps may have nothing to do with it.

Are  there changes in appearance of mucous membranes, ulcers, fissures, atrophy, dryness, changes in or loss of taste, redness, white spots? Pain or burning? Burning is slightly different and can be caused by candida, vitamin or iron deficiencies, inflammatory conditions, allergic reactions, medications, dentures, reflux, other health issues.

i have a ranula under my tongue, and the doctor said we'll leave it alone. but i think it's on my taste buds and sometimes i can't taste anything.?

Can leave it: A ranula is a type of mucocele or mucous retention cyst in the floor of the mouth, if it becomes large it is uncomfortable. It is so named as it resembles a frog (latin for frog). If left alone it will likely spontaneously rupture, or if desired it can be excised or use a syringe to evacuate the liquid (by a doctor, not at home).

Herpes simplex: Over 85% of the population has been infected with HSV and can reactivate at any time. Do not know if that is what you actually have, but if you have no risk factors (unprotected sex, sharing needles, etc.) HIV and other STDs should not be a concern.
