Persistent or recurrent pain on one side of the head or around the eyes. Impairment of some movements of the eyes. Loss of sensation of forehead. More symptoms develop as the condition progresses.  The cause of the inflammation is unknown but it does respond to powerful anti inflammatory medications.

Rare disease : The treatment of choice is steroids which usually provide pain relief within 24-72 hrs of therapy initiation. Extraocular paresis takes weeks to months to resolve ; unfortunately may not completely resolve in some cases depending on the degree of inflammation.For refractory cases, adding immunemodulating drugs such as  azathioprine ; Methotrexate can help. Seek a full neuroophthalmology evaluation.
