Rare disease : The treatment of choice is steroids which usually provide pain relief within 24-72 hrs of therapy initiation. Extraocular paresis takes weeks to months to resolve ; unfortunately may not completely resolve in some cases depending on the degree of inflammation.For refractory cases, adding immunemodulating drugs such as azathioprine ; Methotrexate can help. Seek a full neuroophthalmology evaluation.
