considering 2nd toe amputation instead of bunion surgery to include shortening 2nd and 3rd toes.  what are the negatives?  will bunion become worse?

Surgical repair: My usual tendency would be to surgically repair verses amputation.  in very severe cases I will recommend amputation, but this is very rare. With amputation you will continue to have progression of the bunion and hammertoes and deviation to the 3rd, 4th, and 4th toes. The amputation can also lead to increased pressure under certain bones in the ball area of the foot.

Pliers and booze: Of course the real answer is you can't.  Hammertoes and other toe deformities can only be fixed surgically.  Don't waste your money on those splints and such.

But as a general rule, your pain and inability to wear shoes have to outweigh the risks of surgery, albeit small.  Surgery should always be the last resort.

Surgery for toes: In mist cases surgery is not needed for a broken toe. It is important to take an x-ray to make sure it is in good position. If it is not then surgery may be considered.

What type of surgery: An ingrown toenail surgery and a hammertoe surgery are entirely different yet are both types of toe surgery. Discuss with your surgeon.

Probably cannot: Most toe deformities are a result of heredity and do not correct themselves nor do they correct with splinting, manipulation, or exercises .  That being said, surgery to correct the deformity is often very successful, but should only be performed if the deformities are causing pain or affecting normal walking.

All varies: Usually though sutures are left in place for 2-3 weeks. A surgical shoe is worn during that time frame. If a pin is in the toe or some form of fixation then the doc may want you in the surgical shoe for 4 weeks though you can be walking during that time.

Be careful: While people do have surgery to shorten  toe, be careful. I don't recommend cosmetic foot surgery unless there is pain involved. Remember, your feet are primarily there for walking without pain. If they are doing this, then i suggest leaving them alone. If there is pain in shoes or when walking, then visit a podiatrist to learn your options.

my toes over lap and i know ima need surgery but i don't want to do it any time soon...when is the proper age to do it?

Any time you want: The only reason to have surgery is to reduce pain. When you have had enough of the pain, then it is time. It is always your choice.
