See a surgeon: You are describing a bacterial infection under the nail.  It needs to be treated by antibiotics and by drainage.  A hole must be made through the nail to allow drainage, followed by soaks.  Make an appointment for today.

how can i keep my toenail from separating from the toe bed? the toenail on my big toe is starting to separate. there is a reddish rim on the outer edge of my toenail where it is attached. this is a new issue since we joined the y and swim?

: Pl see a podiatarist for without being seen no diagnosis is possible. Apply any antiseptic to the area and keep it covered with/gauze/cotton. Probably not related to your pool.

: When a toenail turns yellow, a fungus infection is often the cause. However, injury may also be the cause. A podiatrist is best to consult for accurate diagnosis &amp; proper treatment.

Not common: This is not an everyday procedure and usually done for cosmetic reasons.
If your child is having this done they will have a great outcome since it is usually just a soft tissue procedure and does not usually involve bone.

Further exam: Cramping can be due to using muscles that you don't normally use. Sometime from doing activity that uses the small muscles in the foot not used in daily activity.  It could also be due to dehydration, an imbalance of potassium/sodium, response to prescription medications... As well as many other causes.  I would suggest further work-up.

Do nothing : either see a foot doctor to remove it so fungus won't grow under. Or your remove but bleeding might occurre.  My advice go see a foot doctor

Abnormal gait: An 18 month old is expected to walk with no disturbance of gait. Abnormality of gait could be due to a problem with the muscles, skeleton, nervous system or habit. A toddler with gait abnormality should be thoroughly evaluated (history &amp; PE) &amp; if needed referred to appropriate specialty and rehab services for needed services. Take care.

Normal!: Onycholysis is the painless separation of the nail from the nail bed. This is a common problem. It can be a sign of skin disease, an infection or the result of injury, but most cases are seen in women with long fingernails.
Discoloration underneath the nail may occur as a result of secondary infection.

Treatment of the nails with a nail growth promoter is a good idea.
