Since your: skin "spots" are BILATERAL and Symmetrical I would guess that they are caused by one of the pairs of FOOTWEAR you have RUBBING on the tope of your great toes....(Often the "closest fits"is that area)

There are a few different neurological problems that can cause this sensation ranging from mechanical injury to the spine to problems with the spinal cord itself.  This warrants a neurological evaluation.

I'm not sure...: ...Where you are going with this, but I have had patients tell me that they enjoy warming up cold areas of their bodies (ears, usually) for reasons that are not clear, at least to me. You mentioned toes, so if you're saying that your spouse has cold feet in bed, try telling him or her to wear socks to bed.
