magnesium for tmj/headaches. what kind - citrate, glycinate, etc?  do not want diahhrea so guidance would be appreciated. night guard doesn't work.

Rule out TMJ issues: TMJ problems can frequently cause headaches but there may be other causes. If you have not seen a dentist recently then have a dentist check to see if there is any TMJ related causes to the headache. Nightguards that are custom made by a dentist tend to work most of the time. If your current nightguard is an OTC one therein lies part of your problem.

jaw clicks usually feel pain in jaw joint , front of ear or cheek just before mild headache back of head or temple area. occasionally just before headache brief tinnitus or slightly blurry vision that passes in a few minutes. is this tmj headache?

i had to sleep sitting up due to shoulder surgery can this cause tmj, in turn can tmj cause headaches, tinnitus, tingling around head ?

Possibly: Sleeping in an abnormal position could possibly cause TMJ dysfunction. Tmj dysfunction definitely could cause headaches, tinnitus and tingling. Visit your dentist who can do and exam and determine if and what treatment might be needed.

been diagnosed w moderate tmj w headaches, neck pain, numbness etc - 4 stage treatment suggested 1- bottom retainer for aligning jaw, 2- max growth appliance, 3- braces, 4- retainer .  this sound like correct approach?  anything else i should ask?

We can't diagnose: the cause of your pressure. This would require a  medical history &amp; physical examination at minimum. Once the cause is determined - a treatment plan can be developed.

A few ideas: May just be a temporary flare of symptoms. Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. Plus any treatment you already use.
If persistent symptoms, see TMJ-orofacial pain expert. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD or dentist for referral.
