Accepted Answer

Yes: I generally encourage exercise after joint replacement.  It is important to maintain muscle tone, weight control and general health.  I don't recommend activities which involve impacts such as running.

Post- op knee pain: Knee replacement depends on age and extent of damage. Still having pain could mean damage was too great to improve much, or you wern't given a chance3 to rehab it. Age is an important factor here.

Knee replacements: There are multiple causes of post-operative knee pain/stiffness after knee replacement. Your pain seems to be located mostly in the outside of the knee. This could be from impingement of the knee replacement components on the soft tissues. Recommend getting new x-rays and  consulting  with an orthopedic surgeon

i'm 3 weeks post-tkr surgery and still have pain on the inner-side area of my knee cap. i asked my doc about the pain and he said that is where the inside stitches are. my pt said it's the patella causing pain. is this normal?

Postsurgical pain: Is common and it might have more than 1 cause, meaning that they both are likely to be right. Most of the pain dissipates away or becomes tolerable if enough time is allowed for healing and strengthening. Your Ortho surgeon is your best resource going forward.

Be checked: It may be an issue with the patellafemoral joint.  I would encourage you to let your surgeon know.

i had a total knee replacement about a year and a half ago and my knee still won't work and on the side it is always red , swollen and in extreme pain . that's on the inter side of my right knee . could this be the cause of me not being able to walk?

Accepted Answer

: Swelling &amp; redness are a sign of inflammation which would cause pain on knee motions. Your orthopedic surgeon should examine your knee for diagnosis of the cause of the inflammation and for proper treatment. A loose prosthesis has to be ruled out,also. Appropriate testing will be done.

what surgery will they do if your knee knee goes to the side when walk, pop/lock up and has extra fluid in it?

Extensor mechanism: Soundslike you may have patellofemoral instability(kneecap slips out of place).If you have failed aquads rehab./bracing program surgical options depend on your anatomy and severity of instability.Lateral release, lateral release w/tibial tubercle ostetomy, and/or medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction are surgical options.Best of luck!
