: The size of a tumor does not necessarily determine whether treatment is effective. Depending on timing, the size could be small one day, and rapidly progress in growth another day. Also what can appear small on the surface, like melanoma, may be actually very deep, malignant, and already metastasize. This is why we use Tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) Staging in the U.S.

can a small potentially malignant growth be spreading cancer to other places in the body even if the tumor itself is not growing or changing?

Accepted Answer

Yes: If the potentially malignant growth is in actuality malignant then spread without any marked alteration in size is more than possible.  Malignant growths do grow, but spreading is via a chemical MMP that allows the tumor cells to enter blood stream and forms small E-cadherins which enhance metastatic potential independent of size of the tumor.

what is the significance of a small complex cyst remaining stable? if cancer can spread even if the tumor itself isn't growing, why stability matter?

Stability: Suggests a benign etiology for a cyst. Cancers tend to grow, while cysts remain stable or grow very slowly.

Can see early: Current radiologic diagnostic methods can detect early lesions.

Skin cancer: Unfortunately, a lot of times there is no telling that a skin lesion has developed into cancer. Things you want to look for is change in size and color, appearance of increase capillary network around the lesion, symptoms like discomfort (prickling, burning, etc.). If you have those and especially the lesion is dark, you must have it checked. If you don't have those but still in doubt, do the same.

: All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, small lymph nodes near the appendix are normal. There is nothing to suggest cancer in the report.

1-2 centimeters: The sensitivity of pet scanning (in combination with ct) is dependent on the origin and metabolic activity of the cancer and the part of the body that is being scanned.  In general, most 2 cm cancers will be identified;  as many as 1/3 of all cancers less than 1cm may be missed.

Terminology: For ovarian cancer to be there, there has to be a "tumor", i.e., a mass. The mass may be solid or cystic. There are many different types of ovarian cancers and each has different manifestations. You may consult this site for more info:

is it normal to remove small bladder cancer tumors instead of using bcg?

Yes: Yes.  In fact it ithe standard of care to remove all tumors prior to bcg, if possible.  All visible lesions are to be removed from the bladder.  Depending on various factors such as the size, location, etc., the entire lesion may be able to be removed in its entirety.  Depending on the type of cancer, size, and ability to remove the entire lesoin, BCG may then be an option for the patient.

what is the life exspectancy of someone with hip cancer in the bone stage 4  with other small tumors in diferant places?

Accepted Answer

Very difficult: Every case is different and depends on the treatment received and the response. Without treatment probably 6 months or less, but that is a far guess.
