Tinnitus: Tinnitus is a sound you "hear" but it is coming from inside your ear/head. Can be low or high pitch. Often present after rock concert or firearms.

Whooshing: It can be a low hum, a high pitch whooshing sound, it can be in one or both ears, it can be pulsatile (synchronous with  the heartbeat), it can be loud like a locomotive, and sometimes it can be heard by others (especially your doctor if a stethoscope is used).
