Longer than low back: Thoracic spinal surgery is usely performed for disc herniation, fractures, infection,  & neoplasms. The transthoracic approach is preferable. It normally requires a thoracic & spinal surgeons. The recovery takes longer than lumbar or cervical surgery, because of the  major multiple organs  and rib cage involved. Plumoraty complications are most prevalent. Talk to your md regarding his recovery tim.

i had my 3rd spinal surgery in the last 2 years and this time he closed up with staples instead. what would be the reason for that? they hurt!

Scar tissue: Choice of closure method is completely up to the surgeon.  For a third surgery, it can be somewhat more difficult to close through previous scar tissue, so that may be why the staples were used.  I would recommend you ask your surgeon to get his viewpoint.

i was told that i have a lumbar collapsed disc and its just bone on bone and the spurs are bad. what is the treatment for that? can i avoid back surgery? also spinal stenosis as well?

: Not feasible to assess surgical risk based on provided data.  Generic conservative approach involves physical therapy, acupuncture, stretching,  McKenzie Back Exercise program, possibly swimming, but minimal use of braces and pain medications.  Consult a spine surgeon for an opinion.  Avoid surgery unless pain is unbearable, there is progressive weakness and atrophy, urinary issues, or instability

Same good habits to : Use even if never had any surgery! avoid prolonged positioning: sitting, driving or standing.  Sit with chair that has arms ; high back.  Exercise regularly in terms of cardio, flexibility ; core strengthening while keeping weight under control with no specific restrictions other than good calcium and vitamin intake especially vit d. Avoid smoking ; get a good night's sleep with a firm mattress.

my trap has torn from insertion at c7, after a spinal surgery that went wrong. is it possible to repair this?

See below: I would think given time and rest, it would heal like most pulled or torn muscles.  Depending on the extent, I guess it's possible you would need a surgical repair.  I would see an orthopedist or sports medicine physician.
