Some possibilities..: Feeling a knot of tightness near the belly button... Probably not in the skin, so the next layer is the muscle... Maybe a muscle strain from sit-ups or other exercises. Not likely to be a hernia there unless there is a bulge. Under the muscle layer are the intestines... Maybe some intestine contraction or spasm, due to no particular reason or to constipation. A doctor's visit can sort things out.

Ignore it and see: If you're otherwise well and there is no fever/chills/redness, or changes in bowel function, then funny sensations of tightness around your belly button is probably nothing to worry about.
Our body is constantly creating unusual sensations that come and go.
Just let go and don't pay attention to it for a few days and see what you feel.

Might not be IBS: Pain is not typical with irritable bowel. People do get cramping at times, but if this is a consistent pain, you should seek additional medical care.

If this is more gas pain or cramping, gentle movement is your best bet to get things going in the right direction. A walk and drinking plenty of fluid may get you back on track.
