Several ways: You can apply ice to the area.  You can also use a topical cream such as Hydrocortisone cream.  If there is associated itching, you can use medications such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to help.

tick-borne illness: Like lyme and erlichia are possible.  Watch for the bull's eye rash and call your doctor on monday in case you need a blood test and medication.

Elbow: Other than injury, elbow pain usually is due to either tendinitis or types of arthritis.  If symptoms persist see your physician,orthopedic specialist or rheumatologist.

Sickness/virus: You may have a bug whether that be bacterial or viral.  Some of the bumps on the back of your tongue may be inflammed taste buds, there is a row of large ones back there.  Scrub the area and keep it clean.  It may help to gargle with salt water, but i would go see your dentist or a physician to see if it may be strept or viral.

Depends: Depends on the disease, lyme, rocky mountain spotted fever, tularemia, babeosis, stari.
The earliest would be a few days.

: There are some basic things to consider. The sinuses are like caves or compartments in the skull that lighten the weight of the bone. They start to develop in early childhood and are fully formed by adulthood. They are separated compartments with entrances/exits. Any inflammatory process can involve only one or both sides, but leaning the head does not shift fluid between them.

Inflammation v. what: "Knots" as described are not diagnostic of an inflammatory condition, so if there is doubt as the diagnosis or a new inflammatory condition may be  present, please get evaluated. There are many promising new agents for relief of functional cramping, but first clarify that there is no organic pathology that is indeed the active condition causing your present symptoms please.

A tick bite??: I doubt it very much that it was a tick, if it was attached to the skin you would have seen, now you scraped off it is more difficult to tell. Talk to  your doctor.  If you're  worried  about tick bite &amp; Lyme disease your pediatrician can test him for it. Good luck

The tongue could swell for a number of reasons including but not limited to injury to the tongue (biting or external injury), a local reaction to an irritant in your mouth, or an allergic (system-wide reaction). Determine which of these it could be (if any and consult with an oral surgeon, ENT or your pcp).

Corticosteroids: Short term taking of corticosteroid medication(a week) is usually no problem for nondiabetics. I reserve corticosteroid medication in respiratory tract infection for patients who have complications of wheezing.but they have been prescribed as add ons in cases of community acquired pneumonia by some physicians.
