Common issue: The glands are part of the immune system that sifts through body serum removing viruses &amp; germs. They are often felt in the neck where they are not buried in muscles or fat. They often swell while working and recede when finished over a 2-4 wk cycle. When this occurs in the neck during a sore throat it may signal treatable strep. If no pain or fever you can ignore it.

i have a swollen gland in my neck. started getting trout pain three days ago. it has been getting progressively worse. i am struggling to swallow. very difficult to take anything in. gp has given anti-biotic and pain medication yesterday. ?

Call PCP: Is the difficult to swallow is that it just hurts and can or is not going down at all.That makes the difference.If you try and just hurts not as serious usually.The antibiotics may take up to 3 days before you notice a difference if it is bacterial.Drink plenty of water as well as warm or cold liquids which every is better.Salt water gargles.Ask Primary for magic mouthwash to numb area or steroids

There are many important vessels and nerves. I'd pick mediastinotomy still.
