for the last few months the base around my right thumb aches, and when i do something that requires force, like peeling an orange, my thumb seems to contract and then start twitching rhythmically for a few seconds, sometimes longer. what is this?

Could be arthritis: Your symptoms are suggestive of arthritis. Involvement of thumb warrants evaluation to rule out rheumatoid arthritis. It would be prudent to see your doctor for evaluation and treatment.

i have very minor twitching at base of left thumb (when i move the thumb closer to my index finger, it trembles a little).  i jammed said thumb 2+ years ago.  i'm right handed. could that have caused this twitching?  i have no known health issues.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It is possible that the trauma induced arthritis in the joint and that may be causing your symptoms. You may watch and wait, if the tremor worsens, or other muscles exhibit fasciculations, it would be prudent to see a neurologist.

the base of my right thumb, but sometimes other parts of hands is twitching when i type or use mouse.i typed and used mouse quite a lot over many years. oould it be a repetitive motion injury? how can i treat it or stop it?it is scary. thank you!

Not scary: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, and  physical examination. You could help yourself by taking short breaks between episodes of typing. If symptoms persist you should consult a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician.

my wrist is sore for just over a week. it only hurts for specific movements just below the base of my thumb. some movements makes my thumb twitch/move very slightly. what could be wrong and what can i do?

Tendonitis or sprain: get examined and use a wrist support. You can try OTC NSAIDS like Advil or Aleve if not allergic; however, your symptoms require an examination and x-rays.

See your doc : Very unlike ALS, and much more like an overuse syndrome from your data entry job. This should be examined by a PMR or Ortho doc. If it is,overuse, then ergonomic changes will be offered and your symptoms should improve.

Could be many things: Depending on the severity, duration, occurring at rest or posture -- can be a tremor, dystonia or myoclonus.  Need more information.

Watch and wait: You may watch and wait. If the twitching spreads to other parts of the body or is still there three weeks from now, it would be time to see a doctor.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Hard to say: There are multiple potential causes, and if it persists i would encourage you to be checked.  A detailed exam and appropriate tests can usually determine the cause.  Consider being seen.
