Which is which?: If one of the thyroid function tests is high and one is low, depending on whether it is TSH or free t4, you could either have an over active or under active thyroid.  It's also possible that your next set could be normal. Without more detail it isn't possible to respond more specifically.  Having thyroid antibodies and possibly TSH receptor antibody testing may help elucidate.

i was diagnosed with pap. thyroid cancer in january 22 and had tt in april, rai in june. now my blood tests show thyroid antibodies are high. is this of concern, or could it mean recurrence?

: It is a concern if you did not have these antibodies before the total thyroidectomy. If these antibodies were present before the surgery (10% normal people have these antibodies), it is difficult to interpret the result of serum thyroglobulin which should be zero post TT. By UPTODATE: all laboratories that measure serum Tg should test for anti-Tg abs in any serum sample submitted for Tg assay.

had u/sound and blood tests after finding small lump on throat. was told i have thyroiditis by endocrinologist what does this mean? i was also told i am more likely to develop over/under active thyroid in my life. is this a common condition?

: Thyroiditis is the medical term for inflammation/irritation of that gland. There are several potential triggers, which you should discuss with the doc. If the gland gets too busy making hormone they can stop it medically, if it stops making hormone, they can replace the hormone easily with a daily pill. It is a common condition.

Other causes: It may be that your symptoms are caused by something other than your thyroid.  Tiredness, weight issues, and feeling sluggish can all have many causes.

Why do you think so?: The bigger question is, 'what leads you to believe that you have a thyroid condition?'  is it pain or swelling of the thyroid gland?  Symptoms that you read about in a book or online?  A friend who had similar symptoms and they had a thyroid issue?

A second opinion from an endocrinologist (a doctor who specializes in thyroid and other gland illnesses) is a good choice.  Good luck!

on recent blood tests my ths thyroid was 3.21...it went up from last year(2.94) is this considered high levels?

No: They are both normal levels for a nonpregnant woman.
