You can't.: Many people think they have oral thrush because they see white spots in their mouth but they actually do not have a thrush. Oral thrush is uncommon. It is usually caused by inhaled steroids used in asthma or copd, or by a severe immune deficiency such as hiv. It needs to be treated with an oral antifungal.

7-10 days?: It depends on several factors. Are you still using the nystatin? Are you using a steroid inhaler? Are you done with the antibiotic? If you are not using a steroid and you are done with the antibiotic then you should get better quicker.

Anyone can: Thrush is present in young babies to the very oldest adults.  This is a yeast infection of the lining of the oral cavity.  It can happen for no apparent reason or be brought on by medications/drugs, illness and those with poor immunity.  Antibiotics often precipitate this as do certain cancers and medications. Usually treated with oral troches, liquids, or orally swallowed pills and some topicals.

It can happen : Thrush is a fungal infection and can happen at any age. In infancy, it is common and often of no consequences. In adult, usually there is a cause: med use such as steroid/astha/copd inhalers, antibiotic use, uncontrolled diabetets, immunocompromised states such as hiv/aids, cancer/chemotherapy etc... I would consult for eval as to see why you got thrush. It is easily treatable. Good luck.
