Many things: Failed root canal therapy, a canal not filled completely or at all, a tooth or root fracture, an unresolved infection, an occlusal problem, or even another tooth.  See your dentist to figure out what is going on.  Sometimes a 3d cone beam image (cbct) can be helpful in finding the cause of this when a clinical exam and 2d x-ray image is negative.

That depends: I have had patients who dont have ay pain after a root canal. And then I have had some with severe pain after a root canal. It depends on how much instrumentation is done beyond the apex of the tooth, how inflamed the nerve is when the treatment was performed (the longer one waits to get a root canal, the more likely it is to hurt after), and your pain tolerance. There are medications to help.

The same . . . : Teeth treated endodontically should look the same, with the exception of an access hole that is drilled on the biting surface of back teeth or the back sides of front teeth.  If there is a lot of decay on the tooth, removal of it may alter the appearance of the tooth.  Either way, the tooth will be filled so that it is properly sealed and most often, this is barely noticeable.

No: A crown is not always required after a root canal.  After a root canal, a tooth becomes more brittle and more likely to break.  A crown helps prevent the tooth from breaking. If you decide not to get a crown placed on the tooth then you are taking a chance of losing that tooth although you spent the time and money doing the root canal.  Take your dentist's advise.

Yes: Cysts are fluid filled sacs and most certainly occur after root canal therapy has been completed.

Accepted Answer

Yes and No: If the root canal was successful the abscess should heal by its own accord as the cause of the infection has been eradicated&this can take up to a year for complete healing of the apical area. If it persist then the tooth may be fractured. If this is the case it may have been fractured before the rct. See your dentist/see a specialist for a second opinion.

For what: Please ask the General Dentist or Specialist Endodontist that treated you as to appropriate post-treatment care. I know of nothing that hydrogen peroxide would be useful for, other than (in the appropriate strength) tooth or teeth bleaching. But those procedures should be directed by a Dentist for safety and efficacy.

Often but.........: It's often better to have the tooth crowned after rct, but it is not always necessary.  Each case is different. Ask your own dentist what he\she recommends and why.
