Usually 2-5 days...: If it hangs down (/dependent) it will throb. Can put a cold compress on/around it (keep finger dry) to reduce swelling which will reduce the throbbing & try keeping that hand up--heart level or higher--for 15-20 minutes to see if that helps. If neither help, watch it closely, as might be early sign of infection + push on tip to blanche skin & count "3-mississippi-s" if color not back--see er dr.

i had pins put into my fingers to straighten them out a few years ago. now i always get shooting and throbbing pains in my fingers could it be related?

Finger pains: The easy answer is yes, the pins could be the cause. The hard question is what to do about it. You should discuss this problem with your doctor who may refer you back to the surgeon. You should at least have an X-ray to see if the pins are still in correct position. The cause may not be the pins, in which case some blood tests may be helpful.

Ice: Try ice, tylenol, (acetaminophen)Motrin  and splinting the finger so it doesn't move or bump into anything. If worsening get rechecked where you had the stitches placed.

Needs evaluation : if she is in so much pain that she can't sleep she needs evaluation. It can be many things including infection, arthritis etc. see PCP

Finger swollen: Would follow up with rheumtologist . sounds like an autoimmune process, like Raynauds or a vasculitis. May benefit from aspirin 81 mg if not  allergic , also discuss with rheumatologist use of calcium channel blockers . f/u /w /doc today for rheuamtology referral

Uncertain why swelli: What was the cause of the cut? You could have cut a deeper blood vessel with more bleeding and it woud be wise to compress it.  It is wise to see your physician.

Examine on video, or: Examine in-person. A doctor needs to evaluate a finger infection or a hand infection. Oral antibiotics are the treatment, unless the infection is worse than mild or moderate. Some such infections come after skin wounds. That means a patient needs to be up to date on his tetanus vaccine. Each case is somewhat different, so a doctor's help is important.

yesterday i got bit by something on my finger it immediately swelled up and my whole finger was throbbing and numb.. today it was worse..

Treat: Antihistamines like benadryl (diphenhydramine) , and cool compresses may help. If not seek evaluation as you may need stronger medicatons or an antibiotic if infection is suspected.
