Reflux: If you had a significant infection, the ENT can often see it. Reflux can cause sore throat also it can be from post nasal drip. Talk to your ENT about the possibility of both.

i have a sore throat since yesterday and this morning i also have a swollen tongue with indents along the side. it's color is also pasty white.

See physician: If fever or chills are present you should consult a physician to screen for strep throat. Undiagnosed strep throat could lead to serious complications.

Most likely viral: With symptoms just starting today you are likely suffering from viral infection. Try symptomatic management first with increased rest and hydration, salt water gargle, tea with honey, NSAIDs like ibuprofen for pain. If this fails then see primary doctor for more comprehensive examination.

Dr. can check throat: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees a doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges and Tylenol or Motrin can temporarily help with symptoms.

Potentially bad: If this is truly one sided swelling and pain...

It is concerning for peritonsillar abcess.  This needs treatment.  See your doc today.

If it is really both sides then ignore above.

Viral and bacterial: Tonsillitis and pharyngitis can be caused by viruses such as infectious mononucleosis, or bacteria such as Group A strep. There are other bacteria that may cause symptoms as well. Throat culture could help find the source or rapid mono test. Most viral pharyngitis resolve within 10 days. With persisting symptoms throat cultures and additional evaluation would be warranted.

Probably tonsils: Sometimes tonsils can form crypts or crevasses which look like pockets.  As long as there are no symptoms there is little to worry about.  They are more likely to form if there is a past history of tonsillitis.

Can be infectious: One can have one sided tonsillitis or pharyngitis. If this isn't associated with sore throat symptoms, you should see an ent asap. Also if there is any breathing issues, drooling, severe difficulty with opening your mouth i would see an ent or the er.l, as one can develop an abscess. Otherwise you can see your primary to see if antibiotics are warranted

Get checked out now: Sudden swelling would make me think infection or inflammation. My recommendation is that you get seen at an urgent care or emergency room, where exam and lab studies could be done and threat to airway can be assessed. Pharyngitis (strep throat) is common, but tonsillar absess, angioedema, epiglottitis and other are conditions that need to be ruled out and need urgent treatment.

See ENT: Some people developed an oversensitive response to odors and chemicals and the mechanism is not known.  Since only one side is involved, you should consult an ENT to find out if there is any underlying inflammation at that side of the throat to render it so sensitive.
