fever won't go down my boyfriend has a sore throat, headache, swollen/red tonsils, can't swallow and his fever won't go down. he's been alternating tylenol (acetaminophen) and advil but nothing. it's been like this for a few days now.

Well, : Well, it sounds like it's time for him to see a doctor since he has a fever and has been sick for a few days.  Sore throat is a fairly common symptom associated with many illnesses. Most of the time it resolves on its own without any other issues. Occasionally it can be due to something more serious that needs treatment. Reasons to seek care are:

- any fever - since it could be strep or mono and you can't tell without an exam/testing 
- if it lasts longer than 3 or 4 days 
- any difficulty opening your mouth 
- unable to swallow 
- severe pain 
- bleeding in the throat 
- redness or swelling on the outside of the neck 
- any difficulty breathing or noisy breathing

in the meantime until seeing a doctor, taking Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen for pain, drinking plenty of fluids such as hot tea/broth or cold liquids and a spoonful of honey can help.

Probably infected: See your doctor. It could be tonsillitis or done other throat infection. They need to examine you to see. You may need antibiotics.

Air flow irritation : Interesting  complaint.  I wonder as you work out you are breathing extra heavy which is causing inflammation to already existing enlarged tonsils. It would then also happen when you snore at night.

: If the hurt has lasted more than 2-3 days and is not getting better, it would be prudent to see a doctor. Unilateral tonsillar issues warrant evaluation.

i have had a severe throat pain the past 2 weeks and the pain won't go away. how do i get the pain to go away? i have tried all the home remedies and nothing is working. i have noticed that my throat seems swollen and it is hard to swallow anything.

Since : Since you are having throat pain for two weeks you need to see a doctor.  Things you can try for pain include advil (ibuprofen), tylenol (acetaminophen), and topical throat sprays that you can buy at the market.  Be sure you aren't allergic to any of these first.  Since you are having swelling and difficulty swallowing though you need to be seen as you may need antibiotics.  If you have increased pain, fever, vomiting, rash, or can't swallow fluid or secretions then you would need to go to the er.

Less likely: More likely a throat infection, and less your thyroid.  If it gets better and you do not see or feel a bulge in your neck/thyroid, it was probably an infection.  If it persisits, you could always be checked by a dr. And a simple thyroid test would let you know.
